My Favorite Anime Ending Songs Part 2

$

You know I couldn't stay away. I bet you weren't expecting a part 2 either. In reality, there are just way too many songs out there that are excellent. I want to share a few more of all-time favorite anime ending songs, along with a recent favorite.

Hunter X Hunter - Just Awake

I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan at first of this one. Heck I'm not a fan of most shounen, but Hunter X Hunter hooked its claws into me. Having finished the first 26 episodes, I can now safely say I love this song, and the excellent band behind it.

AnoHana - Secret Base

I'm a person who rarely tears up, cries or even remotely feels emotion when dealing with depressing video games or anime. This hit the mark though, and that ending song sure didn't help. Nothing short of a masterpiece.

Bakemonogatari - Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari

While I was never someone who was driven to love Bakemonogatari (blame the last 3 episodes), I did love the music and the ending is no exception. This remains one of the songs I still listen to from time to time.

Bleach - Thank You

I'm not a Bleach fan, and I probably never will be, but this song was one the catchiest songs I've ever heard. In fact, one could say whoever decided to increase the pitch of the song a bit removed some of its charm, so here, I've provided the full version of one of my favorite Japanese songs in general from one of my favorite groups, Home Made Kazoku.

Ghost in the Shell - Livin' Inside the Shell

I enjoy SAC's OPs quite a bit more, but this one's a classic by now, and you can't just get enough Steve Conte. This song is a masterpiece. and one hell of a way to end an episode, each one leaving me with goosebumps every time.

Gintama - Mr. Raindrop

There are tons of more deserving Gintama songs, I'm sure, but this one really stuck with me. I don't know why. Maybe the very child storybook time lyrics or maybe the melody, but it's definitely a song I sing a long to whenever I hear it.

Arakawa Under the Bridge - Akai Coat

While the series was subpar in my eyes, one amazing thing did come out of Arakawa, a fantastic song by a fantastic artist named Suneohair. I have provided the full link because there's literally no video of the anime version anywhere.

Why ending songs? Ending songs tend to leave a bigger impact on me when an episode ends. This will likely be the end of my favorite endings. It's time to move on to OPs. Which will hopefully be soon! Let me know your thoughts below!

A Metroid Retrospective Special #2: Metroid - Confrontation Review

I thought I'd give a short review of this free fanmade game by the same fellow is working on Another Metroid 2 Remake. It was initially a tech demo for AM2R. It is a fun game, and worth a playthrough since it is around 45 minutes long. It is also a great game for speed runs, but overall, it's easily skippable. The game is good, don't get me wrong, but it certainly lacks in its fair share of secrets.

I beat the game in 38 minutes, finding 19/25 of the items simply going through the game. The bosses, which include the staples of the Metroid series like Ridley and Kraid, are much too easy and provided no real challenge overall. Level design is a little too plain and doesn't flow as well as I hoped it would. Music, is well, not very good, considering it's all brand new from the creator, it doesn't really fit the Metroid universe, in my honest opinion.

Overall the game is definitely still worth your time and if you are an avid Metroid fan, I highly recommend it. It also has a thriving modding community who have added many new things to the game. So even though the game is short, there is tons of replay value to be had, and if you want to curb that Metroid appetite, this may be a good appetizer.

I know we can make this happen, so I'd like to formally start a new campaign for everyone on the boards, in the comment sections, and those lovely folks that frequent MyIGN. We need to get this user off IGN. He's nothing but an evil, evil presence in our humble, humble internet home. All he does is make shitposts and his blogs are just poorly written. A Metroid Retrospective: Edition #3 – Super Metroid (1994) Review

$

Super Metroid is the pinnacle of sidescrolling Metroidvania. I say this as someone who spent hours upon hours looking through the deep jungles of Brinstar and the sandpit of Maridia for treasures, only to end up with a 43% item rating at the end of an almost five hour playthrough. Super Metroid is the first game in a long time that I wanted to start over after playing, but had to rush here and begin my review. I don't even know how to start describing such a masterful work of art, but here I go.

The story is deeper and more meaningful if you know a bit of the lore but the story goes that after Metroid II, Samus brings the baby Metroid that thought it was it's mother back to the Ceres Space Colony to be studied. As soon as she leaves, she gets a distress signal and lands back on Zebes and finds the scientists dead, and Ridley escaping with the Metroid. She then lands back on Zebes where Ridley escaped to find the specimen. By the end, the Metroid becomes enormous and helps Samus defeat Mother Brain before being killed.

The biggest compliment I can give to this game is the absolutely masterful level design incorporated by Intelligent Systems. Although sometimes helplessly confusing, the game's level design is incredible. Hidden secrets are hiding everything. Half of them I didn't even discover when I had unlocked at least 90% of the entire map. And while we're on the topic of level design, isn't it amazing to play a game that doesn't have long winded tutorials and doesn't hold your hand every step of that way?

The music in this game is some of the absolute I've heard in the franchise. I went back to areas of Brinstar just to hear the amazing songs within the area, from Jungle Floor to Underground Depths, this game has some of the most immersive tracks I have ever heard, effectively gluing you to the entire experience. The sublime piano of Underground Depths gaving you the feeling of total solitude, while Jungle Floor really gives you the feeling of exploration. Each track is masterfully done, including the amazing boss fight tracks.

Finding upgrades is a joy, and in this game, every single damn upgrade matters. There is no upgrade that doesn't matter in Super Metroid. Each upgrade grants you new area access, the ability to find Energy Tanks and more Missile Tanks and more. Super Metroid was also the first game to incorporate the Grapple Beam, and the Wall Jump, adding new gameplay to the mix, giving you a large arsenal to help you traverse the planet Zebes. Enemy variety is vast, from many pirates to the many fantastic boss fights like Kraid and Ridley. Each fight is also challenging and certainly requires thought and skill to beat.

The graphics themselves also hold up to this very day, still look fantastic with a great artstyle and color everywhere. Even to the day, for a SNES game, Super Metroid really is a looker, with great and fantastic details in every area, care was taken to make Super Metroid one of the best looking games on the SNES. This is a must play. WIthout a doubt this is the pinnacle of Metroidvania and of 2D Metroid games. Do yourself a favor, don't miss out on this masterpiece.

You ever look at a profile page (mostly mine) and wonder, damn, that icon is badass (mostly mine). Well wonder no more! Here's all the icons I have made over the last few months! All for your personal use! More to come! All these meet the IGN standard of 100 kb, 140x140 and should work right out of the box. I have more, but unfortunately those require the majhost method. If you'd like a border, let me know! I also do requests (credit to OcarinaPlayerofTime for the very last one).

Neverending Debates #4: "Tacked"-On Multiplayer

$
0
0

The issue of single-player gaming vs. multiplayer gaming has been a big issue in the gaming community. Many won't buy a game that is solely a multiplayer experience because they feel it's just not worth their money. As someone who loves multiplayer gaming, whether it's Halo, Counter-Strike, Payday 2, Killing Floor, Super Smash Bros. and other amazing games, I want to argue tacked-on multiplayer from purely that viewpoint.

What I want to know is, if adding an extra multiplayer mode does not detract or take away from the single player experience, what is the harm in adding a multiplayer mode? What is wrong with a game like The Last of Us or Uncharted having a multiplayer mode that adds more value to the game you are buying. As a matter of fact, those multiplayer modes for Uncharted and The Last of Us, two prime single-player experiences, were done exceedingly well, and arguably made the games far better.

Why does every game need to be a single-player experience? I can understand RPGs like Dragon Age: Inquisition having solely a single-player mode, but optional multiplayer is hardly something to ever complain about. Games like Halo wouldn't be half as popular as they are without that core multiplayer experience that was added to the game. You could even say for a game like Halo, it has a more popular multiplayer over a single-player community. The very same could be said with Call of Duty.

My argument does have some fallacies. If you're going to just tack on a multiplayer mode ala Far Cry 3, which is a mode I didn't really have much fun with, or in the case of Tomb Raider, who's multiplayer mode was atrocious, you can argue in favor that development time was taken away from the single-player portion of the game, in order to work on multiplayer. That is something I believe is not okay. That is the definition of tacked-on multiplayer.

But even that fallacy above is completely subjective. I'm sure Tomb Raider's and Far Cry 3's multiplayer did bring hours of play to many who bought the games, so they did, in the end, serve a purpose. If the multiplayer is made with care, and ends up being a blast, there's nothing wrong with it. You can doubt the multiplayer of a game like Metroid Prime 2 all you want, you can argue that it didn't really need it, but man, it was just incredibly fun to play.

So let me know your thoughts. Do you believe games should be split down the middle or should certain titles remain solely single-player experiences? Let me know below in the comments.

Eyri's Action: Dark Souls was Easier than this Game

$

Have a seat. I'm about to tell you a wonderful tale. One about a game called Eyri's Action, a platformer, which was a gift for Christmas given to me by a user named OcarinaPlayerofTime. The gift message read "it's a bit on the easy side." Little did I know, that was a HUGE RED FLAG. Especially when the Steam review read a bit like "This game was the worst experience of my life, and I have had cancer. Buy it for the people you hate."

So I downloaded the game, eager to give it a try. "It can't be that bad," I thought. I mean, it had a cute green haired anime girl on the front. But I didn't know the hell I was about to experience. I booted up the game and began. I was in a little house. Seemed like your basic platformer, and I walked forward a bit. Suddenly a metal pan fell on my head and killed. I was dumbfounded. I avoided the pan the second time and left the area. I was already worried.

I started the first level. I walked forward. A spike trap killed me. Now... I didn't know I could sprint, so I died many many times after that. After learning to sprint, I easily avoided the spike trap, killed a few chickens (the game's equivalent of Goombas) and destroyed a few blocks.

Only to be killed by a hidden enemy in the blocks.

Fanfuckingtastic. The game was laughing at me now. And I wasn't even 3 minutes in.

So I started again, and this time avoided the damn block, and continued on, only to be killed by another hidden trap, consisting of pirahnas.

Fuck this game.

I came back to it after ragequitting and spending 5 minutes accruing 30 deaths and loaded up the game. I was back in the house again. But this time when I tried avoiding the metal pan that fell, I was greeted by several more... Why? Why torture me? I don't know, but I was annoyed. I ran out of there avoiding the pans and the traps in the first level.

I got to a little tutorial box (sort of like the ones you'd see in Super Mario World). It told me to enter a lovely vase, sort of like a warp pipe. Where did it take me? A spike trap.

What the hell?

I was at a save point, so it wasn't too too bad. I avoided the vase and went past a couple windmills. One fell on me and killed me. "Okay well, I'll just avoid it the second time," I thought. And when I did... the windmill fell sideways and killed me.

ALT+F4.

I QUIT.

This game should be renamed to Trolling: The Game. BECAUSE THAT'S ALL IT EVER DOES TO YOU.

It's been awhile, hasn't it? Well now that exams are over, expect blogs to be posted more often! I hope you guys enjoyed this read. I quite enjoyed writing it too! ^_^

The Best of Gaming 2014: BladeSymphony Edition

$
0
0

It's been a strange year for games. Tons of people hated this year's game selections, with not enough AAA, and too many games that didn't to live up to their hype, but many others loved this year, and as for me, I fall into the latter category. This year was not only a year to enjoy the offerings of great AAA and indie titles, but to discover some missed classics as well and without delay, I want to show you my personal Best of Gaming 2014 selections.

The Story Driven

I don't really even play games for story driven experiences. You'll find I disagree with a lot of critics on GOTY choices because gameplay was never up to snuff in those games (lookin' at you Naughty Dog), but surprisingly enough, there was one game series that released two games this year, that I absolutely fell in love with. And that series was Danganronpa, with two games released in the series so far.

As far as story-driven games go, Danganronpa's Battle Royale/Hunger Games' style combined with a brilliantly written villain and characters is near perfect and the best story-driven games I have played this year, besting every game in it's category. Is it niche? Yes. Is it worth playing? Absolutely.

The Gameplay Driven

Did you honestly expect anything different? I've loved every single Platinum game, sans that terrible Korra cash-in (I blame Activision), since they started developing games. They are an incredible developer and the fluid combat, combined with the pure raw action of Bayonetta 2 make it my pick for the best gameplay driven game this year.

The over-the-top story may not really grab you, but the combat is so addicting, and so much fun. I have finished the story twice now, and plan to comeback in order to play on higher difficulties. This is a game I'll be jumping into frequently, just to kick some demon and angel ass.

The Indies

I am a huge advocate of indie games. I will never deny that 80-90% of indie games are probably not worth looking at, but the ones that are worth looking at, are really worth looking at, and this year, two indie games really shine and give even more promise to what the indie community is capable of.

The first one is a game I can really dig. A real ground breaker. I bet these puns make you wanna put me six feet under. Shovel Knight is an amazing retro platformer. One that not only is amazing fun, but has some of the best music I've heard all year. All retro inspired tunes, retro inspired games, come together for one hell of a great package.

SuperGiant keeps doing what I wish more game devs would do and that's getting rid of most cutscenes and incorporating story telling through amazing gameplay. You don't need to have cutscenes to tell a story, says Bastion and Transistor. No, it's all done through the game, through a voice, through music, and through atmosphere. And while I only started the game recently, I'm already in love.

And this being the final indie that I sunk hours into before my PS+ expired. And what a way to end it. Something about Velocity 2X kept me hooked for days. The music? The fantastic gameplay? Getting perfect medals each level? All of that was just phenomenal.

The Recommended

So not all the games I played this year were from 2014, as you can imagine. In fact, one game specifically, that I consider one of the most fun games I've played this year, and one I am still having tons of fun with is Kid Icarus: Uprising.

The cheesy humor, the spectacular combat, and the interesting controls are have me pretty hooked. Recommended by a few friends, this was probably the best recommended purchase for a game I've received this year, and a game I'll certainly be playing for a good while.

The Surprise

I'm not a fighting game fan by trade. I suck at them. Mortal Kombat? BlazBlue? King of Fighters? Not my thing. But one fighting game came along that got me having tons of fun with it. So much that I was genuinely shocked how good it was, and that game was Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.

I never really played much of the first, but this game was so accessible to someone who didn't really play fighters, that I just couldn't put it down for days. The game was also oozing fanservice, and as a gigantic Persona 4 fan, I loved every bit of that.

The New Addiction

So while the year may have not treated all of us well, one game did get under my skin, one I play during aaaaaaaaaaaaall my downtime, and that's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I like FPS games.

I love competitive ones too, and with the letdown that is Halo: The Master Chief Collection, CS:GO came along and filled that hole in my heard that yearned for an amazing FPS multiplayer experience, and is one game where I barely miss a day of play.

The Disappointments

Well this year did have it's fair share, and whether it's connection issues, or purchases I personally regret, you'll get all that here. Not necessarily bad games are here, but just ones I sort of wish I didn't buy into so quickly. We can start with a Level-5 game called Fantasy Life. A game that I thought was cute, but after around 10 hours of play, doing chores just got very dull. The MMO-like structure and the very sparse areas without much to do really left me bored. I expected this game to be my new Animal Crossing, but it certainly didn't reach that level at all.

Another game I wanted to play hours of was Halo: The Master Chief Collection. But the bugs, the issues, the lag, and the waiting hours to get a single match just made me lose faith in the entirety of the series. I'll be back for the Halo 5 beta, you can beta on that, and if all the rumors of the game being much better than before are true, it'll be staying on my Now Playing list for a while.

Now I may get a few stare downs here, but Final Fantasy X just doesn't hold up well for me. I got 11 hours into the game and never picked it up again. I just don't find the characters that interesting nor am I a huge fan of the story. It was a decent purchase, but one I ultimately regret. Nostalgia here should stay tucked away.

To conclude, this was a fantastic year for games, with something for everyone, and I hope you enjoyed this Best of 2014 post, and this year of gaming in general.

A Shoutout to All the People I've Met this Year

$

I'd like to give a shoutout to all the fantastic people I've met this year. It was a fantastic year. Between finishing college, and meeting all of you, it was one of the best years I've ever had!

SecondServing: We'd be best bros if we ever met irl. I met this guy in the comment sections, and after talking to him for ages on Skype, he's one of the best people I've met here and someone I can call a real friend. We agree about pretty much everything, except Akira, sorry bro. :D

OcarinaPlayerOfTime: I've known Otart for a good year now, but we only started to talk recently. He/she's not only a great person, but someone who's gender I can't quite figure out. Besides, who else can I argue with for like five minutes every time we talk, then have a random deep conversation with?

neil_rev: I tease her a lot, she also trolls me a lot :P , but she's someone who makes every day better, and always puts a smile on my face. Spending time in Skype wouldn't be the same without her.

EinyelVargas: Another one of my bros, and one who really need to watch Hunter x Hunter, like, soon. He usually trolls me all the time, and my attempts at getting him back always fail miserably, but he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and you can quote me on that.

JohnSnow123: He's the biggest dudebro you'll ever meet, but he's one of the coolest dudebros you'll ever meet too. I met him in the comment sections as well, and we spent a lot of time talking about our terrible major. Seriously, Engineering sucks. But at least we found time to talk throughout the torture.

SmaugtheMagnificent: We've had a lot of arguments about cats being better than dogs (it's true), and you'll never find someone who makes you laugh as much as Smaug. Many times I've laughed out loud at his crazy antics, and sometimes we need a little laughter in our lives. He also gives no shits. A good quality to have.

Kralamoonard: He's mostly known for writing essays and typing really, really, really fast :P , but if you wanna have a good intellectual discussion, he's your go-to guy. He's an understanding guy too, and never quick to anger, and probably one of the most patient friends I have.

Ksquall1: He's the nicest mod on IGN, and the nicest person on IGN. He's basically me. Like seriously, we're the same exact person. I have evidence of that :P . He's someone who always makes me smile, and someone I can count on to always make the day better.

Xbro: I seriously can never tell when he's trolling or serious. He also really likes that mooning emoticon from Skype. Crista, you created a monster. But he's one funny guy, and we're both a couple of big Nintendo fans, and the day wouldn't be complete with his completely random comments.

cookiemonster426: Cats > Otters. Otters are terrible creatures :P . I met Crista when I became a mod, and she's become one of my favorite people to talk to on Skype. She's also very short, but you didn't hear that from me ;) . Not to mention she can kick my ass anytime in Smash.

Metal-Gear-Matt: He was the first person I probably had a real good conversation on IGN. Matt's is one of the longest running users on IGN, and he deserves all the love. He's a great dude, and is responsible for getting me much more involved in the community. I probably wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for him.

And a shoutout to the all the other wonderful people I've met this year, and hope to know for years to come:

Wolfenstein: The New Order - A Few First Impressions

$
0
0

A game that came out back in 2014 that kind of flew by me was Wolfenstein: The New Order. Being a fan of the older games, this one seemed very laden with excess cutscenes and no real fun gameplay to be seen. Boy was I wrong and was I way off. I bought the game during the Winter Steam sale, and have has some massive fun with it. The story itself is actually very engaging. The alternate timeline where the Nazis win the war seemed very real, with newspaper clippings laid all about, that added so much to this world they created. The characters are so far, incredibly well written and very believable.

But what about the gameplay itself? Well, that happens to be the best part. This game's mechanics are amazing. The shooting mechanics feel weighted, and dual wielding automatic shotguns while taking out dozens of Nazi soldiers has never felt better. The game itself also gives you a variety of options in many areas. You can go completely stealthy and take out guards that way or you can run in with dual machine guns or a giant turret and go hog wild. The game brings back armor and health packs as well, something I feel has been missing from first person shooters as of late and I am glad they make their return here.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the game so far. As a game I scoffed off for being another one that was heavily filled with cut scenes and entirely scripted single player experience, Wolfenstein has come to be a very nice surprise and if it continues this way, will make its way to be another one of my favorites from 2014.

Under the Radar: The Smaller Games I'm Excited For In 2015

$

Well, everyone is excited for 2015, which looks to be one of the best gaming years we are going to have in a long time, but amongst the bigger games, there are a couple smaller ones that I am certainly excited for and may have passed by a few people when writing their own personal blogs, and I want to give them a shoutout.

Hyper Light Drifter

A game that gives an almost trance like feel when watching its amazing trailer. A game that even reminds me of the feel of games like Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy 6. It may not exactly be a JPRG, but it's game that feels so much bigger than itself and one that feels like it will be one of my favorite games of 2015. The art style is simple, charming and the music is perfectly composed. It's a game that I feel like I could get lost it and one who's release I just cannot wait for.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

The original Hotline Miami caught be by surprise. It's a game that I beat several times on Vita and PC. It's utterly brutal, bloody, and sometimes hard as you can imagine, a game who's nonstop cheesy 80s techno soundtrack just stays in your head for days as you play, and I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel. It has a level editor; A LEVEL EDITOR! It's a game that will last me for a long time, and one with an amazing pixel art style, one that I can never get enough of.

Mario Maker

I wasn't excited for this game at first, but when they showed the game with Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World art syles, my interest when from 0% to a full 100%. This is a day one game now. A game where I can play some old school Mario with hopefully tons of endless upon endless levels created by very, very talented players. I hope the community for this game start big and thrives for a long, long time.

Axiom Verge

I have been waiting for a new Metroid game for a long time, and at this point I will take what I can get. Luckily, I don't have to because Axiom Verge looks fantastic. It truly wears those Metroid inspirations on its sleeves, but it's nothing short of looking as good as any Metroid game and even the art style has a flare all its own. I can't wait.

The $$60,000,000,000 Man: My Favorite Anime Voice Actors

$

Have you ever heard the voice of angels? Voices that just make the character who they are? I've had two experiences like this, where my interest in voice actors in anime was peaked, and I started looking more and more at who does voices. It started with these guys and their absolutely terrific performances.

Vash the Stampede - Johnny Yong Bosch

Trigun was a series were near perfect voice acting. Even side characters that showed up for one episode were amazingly well voice-acted. But the absolute best voice in the show was that of Vash the Stampede, voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch. It's the best voice acting job I've ever seen in an English dub of an anime, and one that ultimately made the series for me, even surpassing the Japanese dub of the show. It was absolutely terrific. The emotion was there, and even though some of it was cheesy at times, really made the series what it was.

Alucard - Jouji Nakata

Hellsing Ultimate is one of my all-time favorite series with one of my all-time favorite characters, Alucard. That character is brought to life through Jouji Nakata's brilliant voice acting. It's a joy to listen to and he is one of the best voices in the Japanese anime industry. Every scene done with Alucard from the maniacal laughter to the monologues is done beautifully, and I honestly cannot watch the show any other way (sorry Crispin Freeman fans :P ).

So let me know some of your personal favorite anime voice actors. Argue about subs vs. dubs! Voice your opinion! And thanks for reading!

My Most Hated Video Game Characters

$
0
0

We all have videogame characters we just cannot stand. I, for one, don't really have any I would consider a frothing hate, however, but I can certain name a few individuals in games over the years that I simply never cared for and will never care for because I found them bland, and boring. A few villains here and there are definitely real scumbags too, and here I will highlight two characters that I consider a couple of my most hated.

*Warning: Some BIG spoilers for The Witcher 2 follow*

Loredo

The scummiest of all the scumbags. Loredo is a racist sack of garbage who wants to see all the non-human residents of Flotsam suffer. He wants nothing but control and to sell out the entire town to benefit himself. He's selfish and arrogant and one of the few characters I could not stand in The Witcher 2. It's really saying something when a game really makes you feel vile talking to a certain character, and Loredo was the one that I just couldn't bear to. He's an ass, plain and simple, and when I was given the choice between saving a few Elf girls and going after his fat ass to finish him off, you can guess which one I chose. For the good of Flotsam. For the good of the kingdom.

Capra Demon

Capra Demons suck. No, they really do. I loved Dark Souls. I played around 12 hours, beat the two big bosses on top of the roof, got rid of like 12 curses, and the played to the first Capra Demon. The Capra Demon is where I ragequit. I just couldn't. Death, after death, after death, after death, and it just got absolutely ridiculous. I quit. I hate you Capra Demon. I will come back sometime. I will get my vengeance, you bastard.

Baby Mario

You think Navi is annoying? I don't think you remember this little SOB. Navi is sweet sweet music compared to the loud unbearable crying of this kid. Whenever you dropped him, those high pitched scream would kill the ears. Pretty sure if you wanted to torture someone, hey, just tie them to a chair and let Baby Mario cry, for hours upon hours. I'm pretty sure they'd eventually be gnawing off their own arm just to stop the torture.

So I was tagged by mk1982 for this blog, he made work for no reason, so vengeance will be mine! I'd like to tag SmaugtheMagnificent, OcarinaPlayerOfTime, and neil_rev for their takes on their most hated characters. Don't ignore this, Lien. You said you would, but you better not!

New Anime Worth Watching This Winter Season

This season of anime is a little on the dry side in terms of new shows. We have some good sequels, but in terms of new anime, not many catch the eye. A couple however, do make the cut in a big way and I can safely say these are my favorite new anime airing this season.

Assassination Classroom

Probably my favorite show this season, Assassination Classroom follows a classroom of misfits on a mission to kill their crazy alien teacher in one year's time. If they do not, he will destroy the entire planet, but there's more behind the students and much more behind this alien's past that we have yet to witness. It's funny, witty and the characters are charming and very likable. If you're picking one anime to watch this season, I would highly suggest this one.

Death Parade

Winner of catchiest opening song so far this year for anime, and also the most misleading, Death Parade revolves around the arbiters, who are those who judge the people after they passed on. It explores the human psyche quite well, and exemplifies great writing. The emotion is real, and even the arbiters so far have been shown as very, very unique and interesting characters. This one is definitely a keeper, and another new anime I suggest picking up this season.

Koufuku Graffiti

I can describe this anime in two words: food porn. No really, it is. It will make you very hungry. What I love though, is how very slow the show is, how adorable the characters are, and how relaxing the entire show is. It reminds me of the Aria series and is a great watch. I love the food segments, I love the character interactions and how sweet the show is. It's alluring, something I honestly find strange, but I can't stop watching, and you should start too.

I do hope you've enjoyed this selection, and hope you give all these shows a look!

In Support of OverClocked Remix

Music has always been sort of, the cherry on top when it comes to games. So much great music from the Those Who Fight Further from Final Fantasy VII to Guile's Theme from Street Fighter. Music makes our games more memorable and more immersive. It adds so much to the atmosphere of gaming. Countless sites have sprouted up to show off this fantastic gaming music and even soundtracks are sold from the games themselves, but one site takes the crown, and that's the website I want to highlight today, OcRemix.

The OcRemix is a nonprofit organization consisting of many different musical artists who remix songs from videogames. You can find tons of fantastic games on the website from the Metroid series to Chrono Trigger to almost every Final Fantasy game and even more recently, Mirror's Edge remixes. It's almost impossible to highlight how amazing this website really is through words, so instead, I have picked a number of remixes that I personally want to highlight and discuss in comparison to the original song, some that are my absolute favorite on the website and deserve to be highlighted.

Metroid II 'The Unnamed Frontier' (SR388)

Say what you want about Metroid II. You can criticize the game up and down for being one of the weaker Metroid games, but something about that soundtrack, about it's subtle, calming and quiet themes, really stood out. This remix, by Pyro Paper Planes & Viking Guitar, really exemplifies that. The soft piano and drum rhythm in the back ground is rather excellent, and something about the entire track just mellows you out. It beautiful and one of the many reasons that OcRemix is such a fantastic website.

Persona 4 Arena 'Little Arena' (The Arena)

Persona remixes are few and far between on OcRemix. In fact this one, is the only one I found, and I am glad I found it. These fantastic theme, by Darkesword, It remixes the heavy rock elements of The Arena from the Persona 4 Arena soundtrack into a very jazzy mix that reminds me of the very retro fighters on the SNES like Street Fighter II. It's wonderfully arranged and extremely catchy as well.

Chrono Cross 'Another Inspiration' (Banks of a Dream: Another World)

The soundtrack of Chrono Cross is incredible, emotional, and one of my personal favorite soundtracks, and in general, one of the best soundtracks ever made. They were songs that were incredibly mellow, that had almost a sad tone to them, but a hopeful one, and one of the best remixes on OcRemix is from one of the best songs in Chrono Cross. This remix, by Scott Peeples, is beautifully remixed and captures all the emotion you found in the Chrono Cross soundtrack, doing Yasunori Mitsuda's amazing songs justice and making them more amazing than ever before.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Thunderstruck' (Windmill Hut)

Zelda is a very, very popular game franchise, so it shouldn't be surprising that one of the most popular remixes on OCRemix is from the famous Ocarina of Time, but the legendary Big Giant Circles. Windmill Hut is possibly my all time favorite song from the Zelda franchise, and this remix adds a more orchestral feel to the entire song. It makes you feel like you're playing the entirety of Ocarina of Time all over again, and the journey that came with it. It's a song you can imagine being played right in front of you at a concert, and one you'd be awestruck by.

FF7 - Black Wing Metamorphosis (One-Winged Angel)

Taking the well-know and well loved One-Winged Angel, Steffan Andrews actually remixed the first song in chiptune before breaking out into a full orchestral remix ala the original song. It's incredibly done and very fluid. The entire song pays homage to the game that really brought JRPGs into the mainstream in the West. The entire remix shines, and adds an amazing guitar riff at the end to bring the entire song to an incredible dramatic close.

Mirror's Edge 'Clear Reflections' (Still Alive)

One of the best songs in Mirror's Edge is Still Alive. One of the best remixes on OcRemix is based on the same song, fully instrumental, with a great spin on it. New games are getting more and more attention on OcRemix and more and more are being remixed. This song itself is one of the newest ones on the site, by Sir_NutS and I urge you to listen to it. It's rhythmic and very well-made and certainly one of my absolute favorites.

OcRemix really is a website dedicated to honoring the great music of these games and supports some absolutely fantastic musicians in the process. You can go visit them on www.ocremix.org, all the music is 100% free, and is some of the best in terms of great remixes. I high suggest it and hope you enjoyed this selection. If you didn't, well, there are around 3000 songs on the website, so I'm sure you'll find something that you'll absolutely fall in love with! Thanks for reading!

The Phenomenal Music of PlatinumGames

PlatinumGames is an amazing developer. They are in my top five of all time. They've given me gaming experiences that have made my gaming life better in so many ways. One thing that makes that experience even better is the phenomenal music that comes with almost every single game they make. No game comes with the exact sounding music, but instead, each game's music is specifically crafted to make the games flow even better than they already do, adding more immersion, and atmosphere, and some of it is just downright kick ass.

Vanquish

Vanquish is the best third person shooter ever created. You may not agree with me, but this is definitely something I believe is absolute. It sports some of the most intense and badass gameplay and one of the absolute most badass main characters. The music is no less amazing, with a superb techno soundtrack that brings every boss battle into an intense experience. Shinji Mikami outdid himself.

The Wonderful 101

The Wonderful 101 received decent to good reviews. Personally, it's one of the top five games I have played on the Wii U, and certainly one of my favorites. One thing that makes that all the more true is the amazing music. It's music that just pumps you up in every way for each level. During boss fights I would be glued to my screen, just listening and being fully absorbed into each gameplay elements as I fought the amazing and well made boss battles. Kamiya knows his music, and it shines in absolutely every single way here.

Bayonetta

As much as I love Bayonetta, I personally think it has the weakest soundtrack in terms of the game itself. With a lot of very angelic hymns and Gregorian chanting, it never really catches the ear. However! There are a few amazing songs, based entirely on pop remixes and original songs, that absolutely break the mold, especially during battle, which really gives the games a rhythm, and an amazing one at that. Each battle flows with the music, giving you that badass feeling you get every time to kill an enemy. It's art. It's utter perfection.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Through all these soundtrack, there's one, just one, that really leaves an impression on you. The music is so perfect, so badass, so well made, so adrenaline-pumping, that every single time you hear it you absolutely can't help but sing along. That soundtrack is from one of my favorite and one of the most phenomenal PlatinumGames titles to date, Metal Gear Rising. Supporting a hard rock soundtrack with absolutely brilliant lyrics and vocals throughout the entire game, it's one of those soundtrack you listen to daily, and I do listen to it, almost daily, singing along to the absolute perfect vocals, every time.

I hope you enjoyed these spectacular tracks, and I hope PlatinumGames continues to give us some of the best gaming music in the entire industry.

Peer. We all know him. He's the big IGN honcho, and he's one of my favorite personalities here. Not because he's a Nintendo fan like me, or because he's a real cool guy, but because this was the best retort I've probably seen on IGN.

Persona 3 FES - My First Impressions

One of my top 5 games of all time has to be Persona 4. Everything from the gameplay, the great art, the music and story had me hooked from the moment I played it back in 2008 and even more recently on my Vita in 2012. The game is sublime, and close to perfection in my eyes, and certainly one of the best games ever made. Knowing this, I wanted to try the older installments, so recently I picked up Persona 3 FES.

The game itself, to me anyway, has several issues, which of course can be blamed on the game being older, but I will address them anyway. First off, the A.I. While the mechanics of the games are still that addicting Persona turn-based battle system, the A.I. is dumb as bricks. It heals when your HP is still pretty high, does not attack in a sequence in order to get an All-Out attack, and certainly requires far too much prep time. Having more control is always better, and this A.I. proves that.

Another thing is that so far, 12 hours into the game, I am about to get Fuuka, and right now, I really don't care about any of the characters. Not one. Even the extracurricular social links are rather dull, and there's not a character I give a damn about. They seem to lack a great deal of personality and while the story is rather good, it goes at a snail's pace. I have been told it will pick up soon, so I will persevere through for it.

Other than that, the game is still fantastic, the music is sublime and better than Persona 4's for me, personally and the game itself is still addictive as ever, so hopefully by the end these issues with the characters are resolved and the A.I. gets a little smarter as it picks up more moves. The game itself is still fun to play and I would recommend it to Persona fans who haven't tried it yet. I will update once again when I beat the game with my final impressions.
